The current market rate of oil extracted from the roots of Sri Gandham trees is around Rs 1,25,000 per kg. 1 ton of srigandham is up to 2 crores 50 lakhs according to the current market rate. 32 types of medicines are prepared from srigandham oil. The oil extracted from the roots of Sri Sandham trees is widely used in products such as aromatherapy perfumes, soaps, incense sticks, in the pharmaceutical industry, for making wooden toys and sandalwood is widely used in marriage auspicious functions. Out of 196 countries in the world, only 8 countries have the opportunity to grow this most valuable sandalwood tree. They are India, Philippines, Indonesia, New Caledonia, Australia, Fiji Island, Malaysia, currently the price of Sri Gandham heart wood is 7500/- to 26000/- per kg. According to the current market price, one tree can generate at least 3 to 4 lakhs of income.

RED SANDaL------

Red Sandalwood tree is valued for the rich red color of its wood, and in recent years there has been a marked uptick in the use of red sandalwood as a component of incense, especially in the west. Sandalwood trees that grow natively in Southern India. 

It is a small tree that grows to 5-8 meters in height and has a dark grayish bark. The timber is highly demanded domestically and internationally, and especially in East Asian countries. Red Sandalwood timber is used for carvings, furniture, poles, and house posts. The rare “wavy” grain variant is highly valued in Japan for its acoustic properties and is used to make musical instruments. In addition, the timber is also exploited for the extraction of santalin (a red pigment used as dye and colorant in food), medicine and cosmetics. Its IUCN Red List status is “endangered.”

Indian mahogany is a term that is sometimes used to refer to a group of trees that are native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia. These trees are members of the Swietenia genus and are related to genuine mahogany, a member of the Meliaceae family.

Indian mahogany trees are often used for their wood, which is similar in appearance and properties to genuine mahogany. It is a dense and heavy wood prized for its attractive reddish-brown colour and its resistance to rot. It is widely used in various applications, including furniture making, cabinetry and other woodworking projects. It is also used as a medicinal plant owing to the multitude of benefits it has. 

Indian mahogany is sometimes referred to as “khaya mahogany”. Other species in this genus include Swietenia macrophylla (which is sometimes called “big-leaf mahogany”) and Swietenia mahagoni (which is sometimes called “West Indian mahogany”).

All in all, Indian mahogany is a popular wood species similar in appearance and properties to genuine mahogany. It has various applications, particularly where strength and durability are essential.
